Last night I watched Bernie’s address to his followers. It wasn’t a concession speak, per se, but it was long those veins. He discussed the grassroots political revolution that was created during his campaign, what his ideas were about what needed to change, and where the future of this movement should go. He advocated his supporters to take a more active role in local politics, to fill jobs for greener energy, to hold those in power accountable. But then he said that it was important that we beat Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
Donald Trump
Voting season is upon us. Like any level headed individual, there is no way that I am going to vote for Donald Trump. I do not feel that he would properly represent me or my needs. However, Hillary doesn’t either. I have never trusted her. She is the 1%. She made all those speeches to banks on Wall Street where she made $250,000 for each one, and she will still not disclose what she said. Why not? How am I supposed to trust that she will fight the big banks when she is bankrolled by them and won’t tell the people what she said? She does not represent me or my needs and I my conscious will not allow me to vote for her.
Am I Morally Bound to vote for someone I don’t agree with?
However, now that she is running against Donald Trump, everyone is saying, “Well, it’s more important that Donald Trump not be president.” People are making me feel as if I’m morally bound to vote for someone I do not like or trust. That is not democracy.
Voting with your Conscience
I will be voting with my conscience for the best candidate who I believe will meet my needs, regardless of their party affiliation. This is the presidency of the United States we are talking about. This person will wield great influence and power. I refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils. That is exactly why we are stuck where we are, with an ill-balanced two party system. If everyone voted their conscience, we would actually get somewhere. Please, for the upcoming election, vote your conscience. Do not vote on party lines. Choose the best candidate that represents what you believe. You are not morally bound to vote for the lesser of two evils, you are morally bound to vote for who you believe in.
