This isn’t a food blog. However, I pretty much talk about everything I want on here, and one thing that I do every day is eat. In fact, I love eating. It is often the highlight of my day. But honestly, who doesn’t love to eat? If there is someone who hates food, I don’t want to meet them.
My palette is not your typical palette. It’s not swayed by cultural norms or fad styles. I just like what I like. And one thing that I truly love is marmite.
Marmite
Marmite is something that people either love or hate. There is no one out there that says, “Marmite’s okay. I’d eat it if it was around.” Either it’s one of the most delicious things you’ve ever eaten, or it tastes like garbage. For me, it’s one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten.
My love affair this dark brown goo began when I was in Scotland. I love to shop at grocery stores and get snacks whenever I’m abroad. In Scotland, I picked up something called Twiglets. They looked like pretzels, sort of, but are marmite flavored. Usually I only eat marmite on toast. It’s just toast, butter, then a thin layer of marmite. It is especially good if I’m not feeling well, or after a night of drinking. It makes me feel better.
Recipe
So when I stumbled upon this recipe using vegemite, marmite’s very close cousin, I was excited to try it. Especially since all the ingredients are delicious. All you need is a bagel, marmite, cream cheese, and avocado.
After toasting the bagel, put a nice, thin layer of marmite on top. Next add a nice, thick layer of cream cheese. Finally, top it off with some avocado. I usually use a quarter of the avocado for each bagel slice.
Now, this will be messy. Really messy. But it’s also quite filling and I honestly don’t know of a better way to start the day. When the stars align and I happen to have all four ingredients in the kitchen, I am a very happy woman. I want one now.
